Josh texted me today to let me know that he felt left out that his photo didn't make the last blog post. Truth of the matter is that none of his photos really turned out that well... but to make him happy, here's the best of the bunch.
Tattooed this fun little one shot today on Matt

Here's two more from Vancouver. Thursday I tattooed a few chickadees on Hanna.
Friday I worked on Ted's sleeve. I tattooed the tiki on him a few years ago.

In recent issue of GQ magazine (US edition), I came across this ad for The Art of Shaving:

The Chinese translation of "The Ambassador of Smooth" as 平稳大使 is contextually incorrect.
平稳 refers to stability, not related to physical surface condition, which shaving is about. Nor the American English slang usage of "smooth" in terms of finesse.
平稳大使 would be better suited as ad slogan for a physical therapy clinic, than hawking male grooming products.

Appointments today had to cancel at the last minute. So I spent most of the day slowly packing for my trip to Vancouver this week. All packed up and off to bed so I can hopefully be on the road by 5am.

Today's doings- Added another little connecter piece to Rodney
Finished this add on to Alison's arm that we hadn't worked on in about a year. We figured out today that the original robot half sleeve is about 7 years old. Always good times tattooing Alison.

No tattoo photos today.... tomorrow...
Just got home from 4 hours of cleaning up this mess. During my first appointment today, I accidentally dropped a full 6.8 ounce bottle of dark blue, and the bottle broke when it hit the floor, exploding everywhere...dark blue concentrate... everywhere...
Good thing it's 2011 and everyone has and iPhone with and amazing camera. Photo credit to Chelsi.

Interesting day today....
Started colouring Kevin's arm today.. and about 30 mins into the session, the power on the entire block went out for well over 2 hours. Super shitty... but at least all I was doing was colouring... It would have been horrible had we been 2 lines into outlining a half sleeve. Unfortunately, this was all we got done today... I know there was obviously nothing I could do about it... but I still felt pretty bad...
After the power came back, I tattooed this rose and horseshoe on Brad for his daughter. The power stayed on the rest of the day... which was awesome.

Anyways... I'm super excited to get the opportunity to head out west at the end of the month and work with Chad Woodley at his studio Sanitary Electric Tattoo Company.

MEXICO CITY TATTOO CONVENTION, OCT. 29 & 30, 2011
Mexico City Tattoo convention organizer Tony Serrano from Tatuajes Mexico, asked us to do a machine seminar. There were 16 artists in the class. We covered everything in our book and more. The goal is more than just to educate artists, for us, it's important to find people who are on the same page and want to be a part of the solution and NOT part of the problem. First you need to wake up and see that there is a problem and then tear it down bit by bit.
The way to maintain quality control over every aspect of your tattooing is to understand every aspect of your tattooing. What you're actually doing when you step on the footswitch, when you put the needles in to the skin, the types of needles you are using, the quality of the pigment. Almost all tattoo supply companies don't care if you're doing good work with the products they sell. Almost all tattoo supply companies don't care if the products they sell are truly functional. Almost all tattoo supply companies don't understand what they are really selling. Almost all tattoo supply companies have never used the products they sell. Almost all artists trust these suppliers to supply them with quality functional products... these suppliers buy and sell products manufactured by people who do not tattoo, people who do not understand what functions are necessary in a tattoo machine. This is only a small part of the problem. Now, hopefully, these 16 students will not be taken by the hype in this unregulated business oriented supplier / artist relationship.
While we were busy at the booth, selling machines, repairing machines and tattooing...
Juan "super" Arreguin was busy trying out his new prototype model machine, and having great results!
David "Scrappy Uno" Garcia was tattooing with his own model Scrappy Uno machine ...
Manuel "Master" Servin was tattooing also...
L to R: Pablo Porno, Scrappy Uno, and Master... All first place winners! Portrait, tattoo of the day, realism... the best of the best.
Meanwhile... Javier "Jade" Campos, was winning in Ecuador & Lima Peru with his own Javier Campos model machine!!!
The talent at this convention was incredible, the organization was perfect, the entertainment excellent.. thanks also to Tony Serrano for being a great host. And Enrico Colombres from Godoy Machines South America for being part of our crew.

I actually laughed out loud when I saw the Chinese on this shirt. Thought I would share. Some smart alec designer had finally had enough.

Presumably the intended sentence is:
這是傳統中文的寫法
which means "this is traditional Chinese way of writing",
with missing "文" & "的".

Outlined Sarah's backpiece today. It's much bigger then the photos show... it goes halfway down her leg. Sat like a trooper.
...then I hung out and had a beer with Simon and watched him freehand a chrysanthemum add on to a tattoo he did last time he was in Edmonton. Sad to see this leave us and head out to Calgary this Tuesday....

Put a few more hours in on Rodney's front today. It's getting there but there are still a lot of small tweaks I'd like to do before calling it "done".
