Keeping with the theme of catching up on old photos....

June 17th Deadly Tattoos in Calgary had their "Getn' Tanked" show and I was lucky enough to be invited to participate.  I'll be completely honest, I don't own a motorbike, I've never even sat on a motorbike... So I was fairly surprised how big the tank was when I went to pick up from the salvage yard.   Needless to say,  I've never painted a gas tank before, but that's the fun part about participating in Deadly art shows...  Usually puts me out of my comfort zone.

I was both shocked and honored that Rich Handford of Kapala Tattoo in Winnipeg bought my tank before the show even started.  Rich is an amazing artist, so it makes me really happy that he ended up with my tank.

... and then made a bunch of needles later this evening.

I'm back after a few relaxing days with Teagan in Banff!  I miss the being surrounded by mountains already....

So I had a few cancellations this week and told myself that I'd use that time to maybe work on a few paintings... as always... be careful what you wish for...

A few weeks ago, I was given a canvas to paint for the Dutchman's Love Though Compassion art show.  I was told the painting needed to be done by mid Oct.  No problem.... right?

1pm yesterday, Ollie called me to let me know that there was someone at the studio who was there to pick up the paintings... slight miscommunication...  the painting needed to be done and in Vancouver for this Friday... so tomorrow....

So that meant, last night was an all night painting session.  I started drawing around 6pm, started painting around 8pm, and worked all night until the painting was done... at 6am...  Caught a few hours sleep, applied clear coat, and had it boxed and at the post office by 2pm on its way to Vancouver.  Success!!!

The show is for John's foundation, Love Through Compassion.  Click the link to read more.  As you might know from reading this blog, I absolutely love flowers and roses... so I painted a pink rose and a robin which are symbols for compassion.  I know it's super nerdy, but the branch the bird is sitting on is my absolute favorite part of the painting...  Really happy with the final product.  I think like most artist, I work best under pressure.

The show is this Sunday, September 25 from 7:00-11:00pm at Dutchman Tattoos.

I worked on a bit of painting today for new shirts, stickers, prints, etc...

...and then bought some new pencils and pens this evening.

Even though I finished an amazingly fun tattoo today on one of my favorite clients/friends, I unfortunately don't have time to edit or post photos tonight. I'm working on finishing this colour study for a cover up tomorrow. The black's done... on to the colour...

I worked on a painting for pretty much the whole day today and made good progress. Unfortunately the client who commissioned the painting is giving it to someone as a gift, so I can't really post photos of the whole thing quite yet. However, I will post a small preview of these tiny roses because I'm really happy with them. I'll be able to post the full painting by the end of this weekend.

Today was the last of the few days off I took to catch up on many things before starting a new year. It was a fairly productive day, although I am unbelievably tired now.

I stayed up later than normal last night to finish a painting I was working on for Teagan. It's done, but I've decided not to post pictures of it. It's a gift to my amazing wife and I really want it to be for her and her only, I guess it's only chance of being seen is if she decides to post a picture of it on her blog.

Today I also finally attended to a bit of paper work for my company that needed to get done. I'd been putting it off forever, so it feels really good to have that out of the way. Maybe more on that over the next few days.

I am also about to start a set of flash, so in preparation I've been working on a whole bunch of small painting that I'll take to the printers this week to have very limited copies of prints made. I take my stuff to an extremely high quality printer who does amazing work with colour matching, so they probably won't be ready to sell for at least 2 weeks or so. Here's a small preview of one of them, inspired by Tattoo Peter flash I bought when Teagan and I were in Amsterdam.
